The Barbell Squat is an intimidating beast of an exercise.

Leave your expensive supplements on the shelves and forget about the latest cutting edge routines you have just read that some bodybuilding superstar does.

When the squat is stacked with good form and will power it will produce muscle mass and extra strength like no other exercise.

The reason the barbell squat is effective is because it activates such a large amount of muscles through out the body and it is then coupled with progressively adding weight to the bar or increasing the volume of reps each and every session.

The squat is more than an exercise it is an achievement.

Why Is The Barbell Squat So Important?

The Squat is a compound exercise that not only utilises two major joints but it also has a significant impact on most other muscles on your body such as:

The Quadriceps (front of thigh)

Hip flexors and abductor (on the outer thighs) and adductors (on the inner thighs).

Gluteus Maximus (buttocks)

Hamstrings (back of thigh)

Gastrocnemius and Soleus complex (calf)

Abdominals and Obliques (core muscles)

Erector spinae (back).

The extreme effort and oxygen intake required to execute the squat produces other benefits for heart and lung function. This improved cardiovascular health and endurance is great for your health and increases stamina which generates increased performance in the gym which in turn builds muscles.
